WE COME TO SERVE NOT TO BE SERVED
At each of the Masses on weekends, Holy Days and other special occasions parishioners who join the Usher Ministry serve as Ushers. Duties include:
At each of the Masses on weekends, Holy Days and other special occasions parishioners who join the Usher Ministry serve as Ushers. Duties include:
- Welcoming and seating parishioners & assisting with handicapped seating as they enter the sanctuary.
- Assist families having a special event during the mass such as a baptism, first communion, etc.
- Selecting a gift family
- Taking up the collection
- Directing the communion processions
- Ensuring that doors are open or closed as needed
- Distributing bulletins and other materials as required
- Ensuring that doors are open or closed as needed
- Stocking wall racks with bulletins and offering envelopes
- Tidying up the church after each Mass
- Being ready to assist in case of emergencies
- Answering questions for parishioners, visitors and newcomers
There are 24 usher teams, 8 serving on any given weekend. Each team serves one month and off two months. In other words each team serves only 4 months out of the year but the months it serves, it serves every Sunday in that month and always with the same team members. In the event that one cannot serve on an assigned Sunday the usher must obtain a replacement by calling an usher on one of the two non-serving teams.
